Ronnie Dawson East Dallas House Party
Ronnie Dawson and Billy Miller of the A Bones sing Long Tall Texan at a party long ago and far away in East Dallas. Accompanying them are Miriam Linna and Bobby Rambo. Lurking in the background are Barney, Alan, Rik, Bruce M. and a cast of several. Jack Starr makes a scary last minute appearance from the kitchen.

Alex Chilton on 120 Minutes (1985)
Переглядів 162 тис.15 років тому
Alex Chilton appears on 120 Minutes on MTV to promote his new record on Big Time called Feudalist Tarts, which came out in 1985, so I'm guessing that is when this segment aired.

Crazy beatnik cartoon. One of my all time favorites. I recorded this off KTVT in the early 80s and digitized it in 2009 for the benefit of all mankind. Dig it!
The Pop "Waiting for the Night" (1979)
Переглядів 26 тис.16 років тому
The second and famous album "Go!", this classic Power Pop masterpiece was produced by Earle Mankey, an original Sparks member and also a renowned Power Pop producer (20/20, Elevators,... and still very active nowadays). The overall sound of "Go!" was very different from the "more garage" first album, evolving, pushing the boundaries of pop to include not just their original influences which rap...
This was on the Cutting Edge...not 120 Minutes
Wow, I’m impressed MTV actually had this show even in the mid 80s. I though it only came about when “grunge” became popular. The network still sucked in many ways with all the music videos it rejected and bands they ignored.
Always will think the indy LP on Automatic was their best.
Two left of field artists in the advent of alternative rock. Just picking playing...he was all over the map in terms of style.
When I use to hear this song on the radio as a kid I would've bet anything this was a mature black guy and not a white teenager.

That's how he sang The Letter on the first take before being advised to growl it up for take two !

Who did the king's violin playing, Jack Benny? ;o)
This was filmed Mardi Gras weekend 1986 for the MTV show "The Cutting Edge."
He looks a lot like a friend from my past.
God blues you I'm happy listen you....
sometimes I think that one of the pleasantest experiences of my life was meeting and chatting with Alex Chilton because he was so sweet
I love love love Alex Chilton, he gives me the lovey feeling when I listen to his music
Is the blonde Liza Gibons?
I got a phone call in 1985 from this guy who's name was Alex Chilton. He asked me if I would be interested in a gig playing drums for him at 1st Avenue in Mpls. Alex was in town producing the The Replacements album. Alex came over to my house to audition me . He had the infamous Replacement roadie with him. my drums were setup in my bedroom and I had old 60s record's everywhere in my room. I noticed Alex and Bill looking at a lp and laughing, I asked what are you laughing about. Alex had a Box Tops record in his hand and said and said that's me! I didn't know who he was ,to me it was a chance to play 1st Ave. I freaked out and he signed my record and he hired me and we played 1st Ave. Alex was a very nice guy, very professional and very talented. Thank you Alex.
Roy Llerandi thanks for sharing!! Very cool story
Roy Llerandi o9
Wow. Alex used to come over my house with Tav Falco of Panther Burns. Alex rarely spoke !
I was blessed to have played drums for Alex at 1st ave in Mpls in 1985.
well my son meant then how he liked they showed this stuff on weinerville season one then unlike those stupid chipmunks with the chipettes at once with that stupid clyde guy both that Alvin was stupid to him as well
Had no idea this documentary was done. Incredible. Alex is so fetching, so tragic.
Dubbed applause
The Crowd don't look happy!
I came here because I've watched Ken Burns' Jazz documentary
Right there with ya
I loved this! I thought Alex was a black soul singer. We all did! Xxx
Oh man, swingin'! Never seen this one before, super of you to put it here, thanks!
What about Sweet Cream ladies a '' Great Woman's lib song '' !!!!!!!!!!!!
Strangely enough, Alex Chilton's voice in this video sounds nothing like the lower register growl on the song "The Letter" as recorded in Memphis in 1967 for the Mala label. And a person's voice usually becomes lower as he/she ages, which makes Chilton's voice here seem doubly strange.
I noticed that too. He's like a real life Benjamin Button.
The producer of "The Letter" suggested Alex sing in that low growl on the record.
He's just choosing to sing it in a higher key.
His Box Tops voice was deeper and more growly intentionally, but not really his natural voice.
alex chilton overlooked genius in music.same as chris bell and their band 'big star'.bless their souls.
Either the King's tone-deaf or he needs to fine-tune his violin playing, LOL Still a funny, original cartoon either way :)
He had so much soul and pathos.
+Margaret I love reading comments like yours. Thank you.
what bach song is he playing at 1:13? gotta know
Bach Gavotte Rondeau in G pretty sure about it or pretty close to that :). I have played classical guitar and Bach of course.
Hey, I was wondering if you have the full episodes of "Cartoon Kablooey" that showed the late 1950's-1960 Paramount and UPA cartoons on Nickelodeon in the early-to-mid 1990s?
Similarly bad violin play would be seen in "Hogan's Heroes" when Col. Klink fiddled.
MISS YOU , DONNA. PLEASE GIVE A BIG HUG TO CHRISTOPHER LEE. Remember us as we remembe ryou. xxxxxJohn.
Why didn't they mention Soul Deep. That I think was their best hit.
